Why we love… Wile E!

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

Wile E. Watcher is a 9 year old black Lab who’s been visiting Dogtopia for almost two years.

Wile E

Wile E

Why we think Wile E. rocks:

1. His name. Not Wiley, but Wile E. The creativity is awesome.

2. He’s the king of bandana fashion. It is the norm to see Mr. Watcher enter our lobby with a fresh, stylish bandana. He’s really setting the bar high for the rest of the dogs. It’s like a runway.

3. Puppies are always cute, but there’s nothing like seeing a mature gentleman living it up in the playrooms.

He’s a perfect example that the social atmosphere of doggie daycare isn’t just a young pup’s game. He can get in there and show those whippersnappers how it’s done!

4. “Our little helper” – When the daycare staff is cleaning the rooms, Wile E. enjoys following them around and “helping out”. I assume he’s just making sure everything is in tip-top shape.

5. Like George Clooney’s specks of grey, the grey around his muzzle gives him a distinguished and stately look. We hear Maya the boxer agrees.

Snow Day?

Shes run in the snow all day, but you may not be as hearty

She's run in the snow all day, but you may not be as hearty

With the first official snowfall of the season, we know many of you are feeling the CHIIILL!

As much as you love him, you may not want to take Max on a long walk each day or for a play session at the dog park. We LOVE the park but who wants to stand there in the Winter?

Even though you feel that way, Max will still be waiting at the door when you come home from work – tail wagging, tongue out and raring to go (winter or not)!

Enter Dogtopia of White Flint!

Don’t forget we offer large, heated playrooms where your dog play to their heart’s content with their best friends! You’ll pick up a well exercised and happy dog at the end of each day.

Best of all, you can watch their play via the webcams from your warm home or office… maybe even while sipping cocoa. :)

Viszlas - Athena & Aurora

Viszlas - Athena & Aurora

The AKC has released it’s annual list of America’s Most Popular Breeds and not surprisingly, the Labrador Retriever comes in first. We are Lab crazy here at Dogtopia and they are the New York Yankees of this list. This is the 18th year in a row they have ranked #1! And they don’t win by a small margin – more than twice the amount of Labs were registered with the AKC than any other breed last year.

They even release numbers based on major cities – Bulldogs ranked 8th overall, but 2nd in San Diego, CA and Chicagoans must know something the rest of us do not, because Viszlas ranked 10th most popular there, but only 44th overall.

Of course German Shepherd, Golden Retriever… Maltese or Yorkie… we love them all. But the list is interesting nonetheless:

Poodle - Aster

Poodle - Aster

  1. Labrador retriever
  2. Yorkshire terrier
  3. German shepherd
  4. Golden retriever
  5. Beagle
  6. Boxer
  7. Dachshund
  8. Bulldog
  9. Poodle
  10. Shih Tzu

What’s in a name?

Just a day after the Inauguration, Barney and Miss Beazley are out, but who’s in?

Joe Biden and Champ (www.daylife.com

Joe Biden and Champ (www.daylife.com

The new first family is settling into their White House digs, but everyone is still eagerly awaiting the introduction of the new first dog.

Vice-President Biden didn’t keep us guessing. He quickly chose an adorable German Shepherd puppy to accompany him and his family to Washington. He later named him Champ.

From Obama’s famous assurance during his acceptance speech to his daughters that they had “earned the new puppy coming with them to the White House” to recent news that they’ve narrowed the choice down to a Labradoodle or a Portuguese Water Dog – America seems fascinated by the selection process. Almost as much as the election itself!

The American Kennel Club wrote a letter to the Obamas with a short-list of breeds they thought would suit the family. They also established www.presidentialpup.com where you could vote for your choice. After 42,000 votes were cast, the Poodle won out.

Petitions, emails and entire websites were devoted to encouraging they adopt a dog from a shelter or rescue organization. The popular animal rescue, Best Friends Network, has one of the most popular sites – www.obamafamilydog.com.

Being staunch supporters of dog adoption, we’d LOVE to see them visit a local shelter and pick out the pup of their dreams, but what to name the luckiest dog this side of the Potomac?

Our clients are some of the most creative people around when it comes to clever dog names. Capt Jack Sparrow, Milkshake, Kofi (as in Annan) and Buffalo are a few of my favorites here at Dogtopia of White Flint. Buffalo is (naturally) a big, beautiful Newfoundland.

So we ask you, the awesome clients of Dogtopia of White Flint -what are your name suggestions?

Submit your best selection via the comments section here (remember to include an email) before Friday, the 30th and our favorites will be rewarded with cash and prizes!!

Okay NOT cash, but we will give a cool Dogtopia prize. :)

Why we love… Monty!

Monty

Monty

Monty Brown is a handsome 2 year old Portuguese Water Dogs who romps in our Gym every day.

Why we love Monty:

1. His bright expressions can’t help, but make you smile. That expression holds some serious intellect. He’s been known to pull his own collar from the bin and wait at the door (tail wagging wildly) to go home.

2. He’s been attending daycare since he was a floppy, fluffy puppy.

3. He’s still pretty much a floppy, fluffy puppy.

4. Monty + his friend Diesel + a Kong = no better show on Earth in The Gym.

5. Monty’s “cousins”, other Portuguese Water Dogs, have some very stately parents in the D.C. area – Senators Ted Kennedy and Chuck Hagel both share their homes with Porties. It’s even rumored they’ve made the Obama family’s short list.
