Now that June is here the slate is wiped clean and we start all over. After 8 full days of daycare the 9th day is on us! Our frequent player program will continue through August 2010. Then, on September 1st all of our frequent players will go into a drawing for an additional free day and spa bath. If you earn 2 free days in a month, then your name goes into the drawing twice.

We can’t wait to see those happy tails waggin’ through our door!

Tips from the Tub

We are seeing tons of pups coming in with stickers and burrs tangled in their fur. It can feel like a never ending battle trying to remove them and frustrating for both dogs and owners trying to remove them without pain.  Read below for what Groomer Michelle Penney says about a painless way to remove those sticky and prickly things from your dogs fur.

By simply strolling to your kitchen pantry and using “pam” with your trusty metal pet comb, stickers, burrs, and summer weeds can be easily combed from your dog’s hair.  That’s right, just spray the hair surrounding the sticker and slide it out with your comb.  Never spray around their face and be sure and use it in a well ventilated area.  You can even saturate a cotton ball with “pam” and blot the area if it makes you more comfortable.

Hey Dogtopians!

Well we are closing in on the month of May and that means many things. First off… temperatures are rising as Summer approaches which is good and bad. It means we have to start monitoring our pets closely when they are outside. However, it also means Dogtopia’s Wet N Wild Water Days are almost here! I’ll tell you a secret…the Pack Leaders are more excited about this fact than all of our Labs and Golden Retrievers put together!

Another exciting thing about this Summer is that we are starting a Frequent Player Program! Don’t worry, it’s not anything you have to sign up for, carry a card around, or sign a contract for! In fact it is super simple! Does your dog come to daycare at Dogtopia? Then they are eligible for the program! Here is how it works: if your dog attends 8 full days of daycare in the month of MAY they get their 9th day free. Then, we are going to do it again in June! See, told you it was easy! So what are the rules?

 Any daycare or boarding dog may participate.

Dogs that attend 8 full days of daycare in the month of May will receive their 9^th full day free. Free day must be used within 30 days and before you can start accruing days for the next month’s card. Free day may not be split into half day increments or transferred to other services. Only full days used in the month of May are eligible for this card. The Frequent Player Program is only available at Dogtopia of Waco, Texas.

We can’t wait to see all of you Frequent Players waggin thru our door!

Thanks to everyone that has signed up to join Team Dogtopia for the Woof Walk and to those that have generously donated! We can’t wait to see you all at Paws in the Park! Tomorrow will be the last day for registrations at Dogtopia but you can still register the day of the event starting at noon.  You do NOT have to join our team or participate in the Woof Walk just to go to the event. They have tons of other activities and fun doggy interaction!

A few important details:

For those that have paid your registration fee and made the deadline for Dogtopia T-shirts, I have them available for pick up.

**I do not know for sure that they are requiring shot records for entry to the event but I would take them anyway**

Waco Humane Society will be holding their annual spring community awareness and fundraiser Paws in the Park on Saturday May 1, 2010. You won’t want to miss this family-fun event! Tons of fun in the park including:
a 1 mile “Woof Walk” (see more below about our Team)

Blessing of the Animals by Father Jeff Fisher of St Alban’s Episcopal Church
Doggy Scavenger Hunt and games by Dogtopia!

We have formed Team Dogtopia for the 1 mile Woof Walk! We would love to have you join our team! Registration for the walk also includes your admission into the park and a hot dog lunch. Registrations go to the Waco Humane Society and if you would like to walk with our Team and would like a free Dogtopia T-shirt email me by noon tomorrow Monday April 12th. You may pay your registration fee yourself or ask for sponsors to sponsor you in the walk. Our goal as a team is to raise $500. If you would prefer not to walk and would like to donate to the team, donations can be dropped off at the front desk of Dogtopia Waco. We will be giving away a prize for the dog of the  team member that raises the most funds through donations or sponsorships. The winner gets a a spa retreat package that includes 1 day of daycare, 1 over night boarding stay, and a spa bath.

Team Dogtopia hopes you’ll join us in a fun community dog related event and raise funds for a worthy cause.

Is your four-legged friend ITCHING like crazy suddenly?

As the trees and flowers BLOOM so does allergy season. If your dog seems particularly itchy after being outdoors it is likely that the grass, pollen, and other allergens are clinging to his coat following him inside. Therefore we are featuring Remedy, a deep-cleansing shampoo that is formulated to wash away coat contaminants, dirt, and grime. It has a light lemon verbena scent that will not disturb delicate noses but still leave your pup smelling fresh and clean!

 For those that are seriously itchy our groomers have  special soothing bath options that can really bring some relief. Ask about the GRATEFUL DAWG oatmeal or green tea and mint soaks!

Helpful Tip: For those that are allergic to grass, and other allergens on the ground wiping down paws and pads between baths can be very helpful.

How about that Buster! Well, it was a well fought competition right up to the end. We had over 400 votes in our Final Two Round and the votes were still coming in right up until the cut off! This years competition was pretty fierce and the parents were doing some serious campaigning! Buster certainly has a large fan base that is very supportive! As the lucky Grand Champion he has FIVE free days of daycare, plus a goody basket of toys and treats! I’m sure he will show his appreciation to you all with lots of lab kisses!
