A positive story about our friends – Pitbulls!

Monday, March 30th, 2009

If any breed needed a PR company it’s the Pitbull Terrier. Some of the sweetest, most playful dogs in daycare at Dogtopia are Pitbulls, but we’ve all seem the horrible stories that can be associated with this breed.

So this was a welcomed story to see:

Pit Bull Saves Family of Five from NBCWashington.com

The smoke alarms started going off, but it wasn’t until a pit bull started barking that her family woke up and discovered a fire in the basement of their Alexandria home.

The fire, which started close to 1 a.m. Saturday morning in the two-story duplex at 37 South Gordon Street, started inside the dryer vent, according to officials. It was spreading inside a wall behind the washer and dryer when a plastic water line ruptured and partly put the blaze out.

The family said that it was their pit bull, Jasmine, who alerted them to the fire.

Damage to the home is estimated at $20,000. Alexandria fire department workers installed new smoke alarms in the home.

The family and Jasmine have made plans to stay with family and friends.

A massive Horray! for Jasmine and we’re happy to hear she and every member of her family safe!

Introducing… Maggie and Liffey!

Maggie

Maggie

We are constantly amazed by the variety of dogs that love to play at Dogtopia. Dogs are often regarded as the most varied animal species on the planet. From Dobermans to Westies… Chocolate Labs to American Eskimos. And even Miniature Dachshunds to Great Danes. We get the pleasure of meeting, greeting and playing with them all every single day!

Sleepy Maggie

Sleepy Maggie

Maggie is a 15 week old (AHH!!) Miniature Dachshund who is here for her very first day. She packs as much cuteness in a 4 pound frame as anyone could imagine! She’s been playing in the Toy Box today and despite her diminutive size, she has found some playmates on her level, Joco (Toy Poodle) and Sam (another Dachshund). Because she’s still

just a little puppy we give her breaks from the play group, so she can rest. It’s also a chance for us to spoil her a tiny bit at the front desk!

Liffey

Liffey

On the other side of our size spectrum is Liffey!

Liffey just turned one last week and we cannot believe how much she has grown! She has a great puppy quality about her and based on the other Great Danes who hang out with us, her “puppy stage” will probably last for some time! :) She enjoys playing in the Lounge and it’s great to see her jump around the playset, run onto the futon and run back. It’s as if she’s playing her own personal game of tag!

We would’ve loved to have just as many pictures of Liffey as Maggie (we don’t play favorites) but this was the only time Liffey was still enough for a photo. :) We were thrilled to capture it!

Dooley is home!

Saturday, March 21st, 2009

Dooley was found! Visit Dogtopia of Alexandria’s blog for the whole story! Whew!

Have you seen this dog?

Thursday, March 19th, 2009
Dooley is a 75 lb Yellow Labradoodle who was lost yesterday morning (March 18th). He pulled out of his collar on a walk after being frightened by another dog – as a result he is without a collar.

He was lost in the area of 9100 Wood Pointe Way in Fairfax Station. This is very close to the Crosspoint Animal Hospital.

If you see Dooley, please do not approach him as he is very shy. He is more likely to come to another dog.

We can all imagine how heartbreaking it must be for Dooley’s family and we want to see him back home where he belongs!

Please call 571-484-8002 or 703-408-1760 with any information. You can also phone Dogtopia of Alexandria at 703 751 PETS (7387).

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

Dogtopia of Tysons Corner had a great time celebrating St Patrick’s Day with all of our favorite red heads!

Remy the hound mix gave out lots of lucky hugs and kisses. Harry the labradoodle posed so handsomely for his portrait! Steve the doxie begged for tummy rubs, while Corky tried to steal all of the attention. Little Sadie Lee was celebrating her 2nd birthday today and demanded extra treats! We couldn’t resist her cute face!  Indy the Nova Scotian Duck Tolling Retriever really enjoyed the jungle-gym. Little Maggie the pom was shy, but loved getting hugs from her human friends. We were excited to have two new sisters with us – Sissy and Sadie, who moved here from Houston this week.

We are lucky to know so many great dogs!

Pups in the snow!

Tuesday, March 10th, 2009

Last week we asked everyone to send in their best Snow Dog pictures.

The pictures were great and it was SO hard to pic just one to be our Snow Champion!

But in the end… Spencer the Cavalier’s amazing ACTION shot reigned supreme! Spencer will receive a Dogtopia gift certificate for a complimentary Spa Day!

Thanks again to every snow covered pup that entered!!

You may have noticed this week that we have new photos hanging in our lobby here at Dogtopia of Tysons Corner. Lee and Donna Anderson from Anderson Photography have freshened up our walls with a new set of their beautiful, black and white dog photography.

Take a moment to check the photos out next time you visit our lobby – you might recognize someone! Three of the featured dogs are Dogtopia clients: Winston Cooper-Carpenter the Standard Poodle, Benjamin Segall the Golden Retriever and Max Gattuso the Shepherd mix.

To learn more about Anderson Photography, visit their website or pick up a business card at our front desk.

Our newest friends Lucy and Ashley!

Lucy

Lucy

We’ve had a lot of new friends coming into Dogtopia of Tysons lately and we’re so excited to get to know each of them better!

Lucy is 1 year old Shiba Inu/Heeler mix who has moved to the area from Colorado, where she also attended daycare. She now comes to play in the Toy Box every day.

The Shiba Inus we’ve been privileged to meet are very intelligent dogs and seem to hold very high standards. You have to earn a tail wag! :) Thankfully Dogtopia seems to meet Lucy’s standards and she has warmed up very quickly.

Ashley

Ashley

Lucy is pictured wagging her tail in the Toy Box with Chester the Cocker Spaniel, Aiden the Tibetan Terrier and an unidentified (but cute) Puggle rear-end.

Ashley (love the name!) is almost one and she comes to play every day as well. Ashley hangs out in our Gym and is a rescue dog, so we always have a special place for them! She’s a lucky dog from Lost Dog & Cat Rescue, a great organization that’s been doing wonderful work in the Northern Virginia are for years. Ashley is a very sweet girl and she’s made fast friends with some of the other Lounge regulars like Wishbone the Border Collie and Ellie the Chocolate Lab.
