National Pet Food Drive

Thursday, July 19th, 2012

Feeding Pets of the Homeless is a wonderful organization that we support.  We collect recyclables and food donations for them.  All of the items and money we collect here are distributed locally to help both homeless animals and those that have very limited means.  There is a saying at Feeding Pets of the Homeless: Sometimes a 99 cent cheeseburger is a meal for two.  We are happy to be able to support them during the year, but there is a national push to really bulk up on the collection of food for the summer.  Food can be in opened bags as well, so if you had something that wasn’t a good fit for your pup, please donate it instead of throwing it away!  We also have a donation box if you would prefer to donate cash instead of food.  These people can use all of the help they can get.

Check out their Flickr page for some photos showing who they are helping.

“Give a Dog a Bone”

Feeding Pets of the Homeless Leads National Pet Food Drive

The week of August 6-10 is the third National Feeding Pets of the Homeless “Give a Dog a Bone” Week.  Donations of pet food can be brought to Dogtopia of Temecula  at 27629 Commerce Center Drive.

Homelessness is on the rise and between 10-25% of homeless have pets in need of food. There are over 375 collection sites across America. Donations of pet food and supplies are received at member collection sites and distributed to food banks, soup kitchens, and homeless shelters which then give the pet food and supplies to their clients.
Genevieve Frederick, Founder of Pets of the Homeless said, “Since 2008, collection site members have taken over 124 tons of pet food and supplies to homeless shelters, food banks and soup kitchens across the country. Some of our volunteers take it to the streets where the homeless congregate. It is a combined effort to continue year-round collections of pet food. We applaud the caring, member sites who have reported their contributions. The need is great for communities to continue to donate to this on-going effort.”
As an outreach to the homeless who own pets, Pets of the Homeless, also uses cash donations to provide veterinary care to pets of the homeless at free wellness clinics as well as emergency veterinary care across the country.
“Most shelters do not allow animals, so rather than give up their beloved pets, many homeless stay on the streets.” Ms Frederick explained, “We provide pet sleeping crates, free of charge, to homeless shelters that allow refuge to the homeless with pets.”
Feeding Pets of the Homeless provides support to pet business owners who wish to give back to their community by becoming a member collection site. Helpful start-up information is available on the website.

Dirty Dogs Help Save Lives

Temecula, CA – July 22, 2012

Dog in tub

On July 22nd from 10am to 2pm, Dogtopia of Temecula is hosting a charity dog wash to benefit K-9 Support, Inc., with all proceeds benefitting military working dogs.  These dogs are currently deployed overseas and their duties range from Bomb Detection to Military Police K-9 teams.  These dogs are on the front lines fighting the War on Terror, putting their lives at risk to save our men and women in uniform.

“These dogs are doing jobs that help keep our Marines and soldiers safe,” said Patrick Moody, owner of Dogtopia of Temecula.  “They are in the same hostile environments as our military, but frequently lack needed equipment such as ‘doggles’ to keep the blowing dust out of their eyes.  The cash strapped units typically don’t have the funds to provide these types of ‘luxury’ items to their dogs,” continued Moody.  “In addition to badly needed safety equipment, many times the working dogs lack some of the comforts of home such as treats and durable toys for a little R&R.”

To date, K-9 Support has raised over $80,000 for working dogs; in 2011 alone, $24,000 was raised.  The goal for this year is to raise $30,000 across the country.  Every dog that comes in will be given a bath, bandana, and spritz of cologne.  There will be raffle prizes donated by local businesses and vendor tables to browse while you are waiting for your turn.

K-9 Support was formed as the charitable arm for Dogtopia, a nationwide franchise.  Dogtopia of Temecula is an award winning facility that provides open play daycare, boarding, and spa services to dogs.  Dogtopia of Temecula opened in 2008 and is located at 27629 Commerce Center Drive, Temecula, CA 92590.

We regularly work with not-for-profit groups, classes, and teams to help with fundraising efforts.  In the past, we have:

  • Held Dog Wash Fundraisers – 100% of the proceeds go to the organization.  We supply the products; you supply the people and dogs.
  • Donations to silent auctions/raffles – Typical donations are one or more 5-day passes and evaluations worth $155 each.
  • Booth at “festivals” – we have paid a booth fee at several events.

Dogtopia supports the environment and Pets of the Homeless

Wednesday, April 18th, 2012

Dogtopia of Temecula (http://dogdaycare.com/temecula/) is pleased to announce that we are teaming up with Temecula Recycling (http://www.temecularecycling.com/) to collect recyclable materials.  All of the proceeds will benefit Pets of the Homeless (http://www.petsofthehomeless.org/), an organization that provides food and medical services to those that are unable to properly care for their pets.  Dogtopia is also a collection site for food, treats, and bedding for Pets of the Homeless.

From the Pets of the Homeless website:

Pets of the Homeless is a nonprofit volunteer organization that provides pet food and veterinary care to the homeless and less fortunate in local communities across the United States and Canada.  Our efforts have effects far beyond the care of the pets themselves.  Read the frequently asked questions (FAQ’s) for details.

  • graph_homeless_w_petsWhy?
3.5 million* Americans are homeless. Between 5% to 10% of homeless people have dogs and/or cats. In some areas of the country the rate is as high as 24%.

Dogtopia hosted the Canine Comfort Center providing water, snacks, and “post snack” services and supplies.  We were proud to support such a wonderful charity, and look forward to our upcoming dog wash to raise even more for this great charity.  Please check out Michelle’s Place on Facebook for other great events and charity opportunities.

Charity Dog Wash Fundraiser

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

In 2005 the non-profit charity K9 Support was founded, with the goal of generating support and awareness for K9 handlers and their working dogs. A major part of that mission has been the creation and shipping of care packages wholly funded by donations from the community. To date over 3 1/2 tons of packages have been shipped to every branch of the military in Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait and several other countries. This year the mission was expanded our mission to include K9s working with local law enforcement as well.

K9 Support has partnered with the City of Temecula’s Police K9 unit and we are thrilled to have them as the beneficiary of this year’s wash! Proceeds will defer costs of the equipment required for the safety and comfort of the dogs.

During the family-friendly event, your dog will be bubbled and scrubbed in return for a suggested donation of $10. Each dog will be given a fragrant spritz and a bandana to top of their fresh new look. In addition, raffles and pet-friendly vendors will combine for a festive atmosphere! Members of the K9 unit will also be on hand to discuss their important work and show off their dogs.

Charity Dog Wash Update

Saturday, July 18th, 2009

A shot of the gym

Well, we finally finished up our charity event at 3:30, 1 and a half hours late due to the awesome turnout!  When the fur settled, we gave baths to 64 pooches!  They ranged in size from a Miniature Poodle to our last dog, a 170 pound Leonberger.

Another satisfied customer phpXcFzwLPM  phpee4goVPM

We raised a total of $1216 for the City of Murrieta Police K-9 unit in donations and raffle ticket sales.  This was a great success and the K-9 unit can put the funds to good use for these often overlooked four legged Officers.

We would like to thank all of the wonderful vendors that helped out and a special thanks to Valley Towel Rental Service who provided us with the all the towels we needed.

We would also like to thank those who donated items for our Raffle:
