National Dog Day

Wednesday, August 25th, 2010

Don’t forget that tomorrow, Thursday, August 26th, is National Dog Day.

We can not think of a better day for your pup then to spend it at Dogtopia of Raleigh.  They will get special treats a nap time so be sure to tell us if their are certain treats your pup can’t eat.  Also, the 19th dog through the door will receive a free day of daycare.  Now how can you resist that one!

See playtime is fun at Dogtopia!

Heavy Hearts at Dogtopia

Monday, March 15th, 2010

It’s with great sadness and heavy hearts that we say farewell to Brandie Wine Amanada and Brandon.  It was their time to go to doggy heaven and we will miss them greatly.  We wish their families all the best and will always be here if they need to talk or need a human or dog hug.

Support Second Chance Pet Adoptions

Tuesday, January 26th, 2010

As many of you know, we foster dogs for Second Chance Pet Adoptions.  We are proud to say that Number 19 went home on Saturday.  That’s 19 dogs that we have found homes for 15 months.  It sure makes you feel great inside.

Second Chance is hosting an event called “Stray From The Heart”.  It’s a chocolate and champagne tasting fundraiser to support the pets at Second Chance.  The event is Friday, February 12th from 7:30-10:30 pm.  Please go to their website at www.secondchancenc.org for more detail or to purchase tickets.

Here is a picture of Gigi (Foster dog #19) that went to her forever home this past Saturday.  We will be getting another foster dog next and will post his picture on the blog as well.

Isn't she beautiful!

Isn't she beautiful!

Have a great day and don’t forget to stop by and say hello if your in the neighborhood!

A Rescue Dog’s Christmas Poem

Sunday, December 6th, 2009

‘Tis the night before Christmas and all through the town,
every shelter is full – we are lost but not found,
Our numbers are hung on our kennels so bare,
we hope every minute that someone will care,
They’ll come to adopt us and give us the call,
“Come here, Max and Sparkie – come fetch your new ball!!”

But now we sit here and think of the days…
we were treated so fondly - we had cute, baby ways,
Once we were little, then we grew and we grew -
now we’re no longer young and we’re no longer new.
So out the back door we were thrown like the trash,
they reacted so quickly – why were they so rash?

We “jump on the children”, “don’t come when they call”,
we “bark when they leave us”, “climb over the wall”.
We should have been neutered, we should have been spayed,
now we suffer the consequence of the errors they made.
If only they’d trained us, if only we knew…
we’d have done what they asked us and worshiped them, too.

We were left in the backyard, or worse – let to roam -
now we’re tired and lonely and out of a home.
They dropped us off here and they kissed us good-bye…
“Maybe someone else will give you a try.”
So now here we are, all confused and alone…
in a shelter with others who long for a home.

The kind workers come through with a meal and a pat,
with so many to care for, they can’t stay to chat,
They move to the next kennel, giving each of us cheer…
we know that they wonder how long we’ll be here.
We lay down to sleep and sweet dreams fill our heads…
of a home filled with love and our own cosy beds.

Then we wake to see sad eyes, brimming with tears -
our friends filled with emptiness, worry, and fear.
If you can’t adopt us and there’s no room at the Inn -
could you help with the bills and fill our food bin?
We count on your kindness each day of the year -
can you give more than hope to everyone here?

Please make a donation to pay for the heat…
and help get us something special to eat.
The shelter that cares for us wants us to live,
and more of us will, if more people will give.

Dogtopia Before Christmas
Author: Dash Hamrick

Dogtopia before Christmas
And all through the place
Our Doggies were playing
With smiles on their faces

The Leashes were hung by the
Playrooms with Care
All in Hopes that Santa Paws
Soon would be here

At 7:00 came Dinner Time,
Outside, then to Bed
Visions of Treats
Dancing through Our Puppy Dog's Heads

PJ & Polly on the Futon did Nap
While Bebe found Janet
And curled up on Her Lap

When Outside the Playrooms
There Arose Such a Clatter
The Pups All Awoke to See
What was the Matter?

Away to the Window
We Jumped Up to See
What in the World
This Commotion Could Be

When to our Surprise
We looked up in the Sky
To See Santa Paws
Flying a Sleigh Bone So High

On Puck, On Doozer, On Bennett
On Abbey, Fly Lily, Fly Couby,
Fly Chaps, Fly Sade

Then on the Rooftop
They Landed with Ease
With Toys & Treats
Our Boarders to Please

Then in an Instant
He Came into the Gym
So Furry & Round
With a Cute Puppy Grin

His Ears Were so Floppy
His Fur Warm & Soft
His Dog Tags Were Jingling
As His Sack He Took Off

He Left Us Our Treats
Too Many to Count
Greenies to Chew On
And Kongs to Bounce 'Round

As He Flew Up the Chimney
He Turned Back to Say
If They Can't Be At Home
Dogtopia's the Place They Should Stay
