Obedience and Agility Training!

Saturday, May 8th, 2010

We have a fabulous new trainer, Troy, from Guy and a Leash Pet Services.  Here is his website: http://www.guyandaleash.com/

I tried his class with my two pugs who have never had prior training, and I was very impressed with the result.  Charlie, my dignified, stubborn one, was the “tough sell” but, once he caught on to the technique, he’s been a model student.  Otis, my sweet, ‘lil rescue guy, caught on immediately and went to the top of the class.  Troy gave us homework to practice what we learned in class, and I’m looking forward to building on our initial success.  His training consists of all positive techniques which are a “must” for me both in philosophy and given the fact that pugs don’t respond to anything but a positive approach.  Several staff members were in our class, too.  They all have big dogs who were very responsive to the training and seemed to enjoy the lesson.

The best part of the whole training experience was the agility class with the obstacle course that Troy hosted later in the day.  Who knew a pug was so agile?!  Charlie, who never met a challenge he didn’t fully embrace, flew through the beginner course and moved on to the experienced side of the field in no time whereas my sweet Otis decided he made a good spectator.  It was the most fun I’ve had in a long time, and the pugs were completely worn out afterward like they had worked hard for their rest.  I noticed all the dogs worked really hard on the course like they were doing their job as a dog!

If you’ve ever considered obedience and/or agility training, you might want to give Troy a call at (303) 521-7605.  It’s certainly been an unforgettable experience for Charlie, Otis, and me!

Otis earned his rest!

Happy New Year!  Everyone likes to begin anew looking our best, and we want to share a few promotions to make Fido no exception!  First, we still have a few slots available for Anesthesia-free teeth cleaning tomorrow (1/11/10).  Natural Pet has visited us before, and their clients were very happy with the results.  If you would like to schedule a teeth-cleaning for your furry loved one, just give us a call at (303) 770-0776.  We still have some afternoon appointment times available.  Also, we’re continuing our grooming promotion.  Bethany is quickly gaining many loyal customers (Charlie and Otis included!), and we would love for you to try a grooming experience if it’s a new idea for you (as it was for our pugs!!).  We were especially pleased with being able to pet our puggies without loads of hair drifting into the air!  They were just so squeaky-clean (and they seemed to know it!) that we became instant fans of grooming.  Or, if grooming is part of your regular routine, it might be nice to try having Bethany groom your pampered pooch while he/she is in daycare or boarding with us.  Then, Fido can enjoy a Spa Day, and you’ll pick him/her up smelling and feeling quite lovely!  Our promotion is 50% off the first, grooming appointment with Bethany.  Give us a call, and we can set up a date/time that fits your schedule.  We wish you a fun-filled and adventurous 2010 and look forward to taking great care of your furry family members this year!

Rebecca is already booked, but we can start a Wait List if you contact us at (303) 770-0776.  Another upcoming visit is by Cindy Lloyd of Natural Pet.  She will be doing Anesthesia-free teeth cleaning on October 27th.  Call us to schedule a time with her or sign up at the front counter when you stop by.  Also, we are participating in a Howl-O-Ween Costume Contest.  Details are explained on our homepage:  http://www.dogdaycare.com/highlandsranch/

Finally, we would like to thank the Highlands Ranch Community Association for a fun summer’s end event called Doggie Splash.  The dogs loved swimming around the pool especially those Retrievers!  Check out the action:Copy of doggiesplash

Rebecca with Ahmia and her dog Charlie

Rebecca with Ahmia and her dog Charlie

We were very happy to host Rebecca Blackbyrd, an animal communicator, at Dogtopia!  She had some very interesting news to share with us about our pugs, Charlie and Otis.  Apparently, Charlie thinks he “owns” Otis but finds him rather boring.  Otis kept flashing Rebecca pictures of the “refrigerator” to which Darien promptly replied, “That’s because he likes what comes out of there.”  Stay tuned for further dates with Rebecca.  We’re looking forward to having her come visit us again!
