Dog of the Week: Skye!

Dog of the Week

Dog of the Week

Skye is a 1 year old rat terrier who comes to visit us for daycare and boarding. She was timid when she first starting coming to Dogtopia ®, but she’s quickly become one of the staff’s favorites. Not only is she sweet as can be, she is also tons of fun in the room. She loves playing fetch, and can outrun almost any other dog-despite her small size!

Dog of the Week: Guster!

Dog of the Week

Dog of the Week

Guster is an adorable 8 month old puppy, but don’t let his age fool you! His manners are impeccable, and he’s still learning! Guster is always full of puppy energy, but he never forgets to show off how smart he is. We love having Guster here, and we’re looking forward to watching him continue to grow!

Dog of the Week:Junior!

Tuesday, January 5th, 2010

junior-g[1]Junior was recently adopted by a wonderful family who decided to bring him to Dogtopia® a few times a week. This handsome hound has already made a ton of new friends, and the staff has fallen in love with him! Not only is Junior sweet, smart, and easy to be around, he likes to make sure that the other dogs have a good time as well!

Amy in USA Today!

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Dogtopia founder, and owner of Dogtopia of Cary, was recently interviewed for a business focus article in USA Today. It focuses on her beginnings and how the company has grown!

By Garrett Hubbard, USA TODAY

TYSON’S CORNER, Va. — When Amy Nichols worked as a sales representative for Verizon, she often found herself hanging around pet stores on weekends, gazing longingly at the puppies.

A longtime pet lover, she yearned to start a business that involved dogs but wasn’t interested in selling them. She didn’t want to start a kennel, either.

Her inspiration came from her Boston terrier, Griffin. Nichols worked long hours and felt guilty about leaving her dog alone all day. She found a couple of dog day care centers in Washington, D.C., but none near her workplace in Northern Virginia.

So in 2001, she left her job and started looking for a place to launch her own center. A year later, she opened Happy Tails Dog Spa in an industrial park in Tysons Corner, Va.

The center, since renamed Dogtopia, is in a cavernous building that previously housed a telecommunications company. Dogs spend the day in one of four playrooms, ranging in size from 600 to 2,000 square feet. Older and laid-back dogs can spend the day in the lounge; active pups are accommodated in the largest room, known as the gym. Dog owners who suffer from separation anxiety can go to Dogtopia’s website and watch their pups on a webcam.
